# Create a Community Channel

Split your community into channels so each conversation has an obvious place to live.

## Create a Channel

1. In the sidebar, select **Community**.
2. Select **Add channel**.
3. Enter a **Channel name** — something members can guess from, like "Announcements".
4. Describe what the channel is for, so posts land in the right place without moderation.
5. Save.

Start with two or three. A new community with eight empty channels looks abandoned; the same community with two busy ones looks alive.

## Post in a Channel

Open a channel to see its feed and post as the creator. Announcements, prompts, and questions all work — a channel with the first post already in it gets replies far sooner than an empty one.

## Mention a Member

Type **@** and pick a member to pull them into a thread. They're notified, so use it when you want a specific person to answer, not for general announcements.

## Edit or Delete a Channel

1. Open the channel and select **Channel settings** to rename it or change its purpose.
2. To remove it, choose the delete action and confirm at **Delete this channel?**.

Deleting a channel takes its conversation with it. Rename an unused channel and give it a new job instead, where you can.
