# Structure a Course Into Sections and Lessons

Group lessons into sections, put them in the right order, and keep unfinished ones as drafts.

> **Content** is available on certain plans and app types. If you don't see it in your sidebar, please check our pricing page for more information.

* [Keep Unfinished Lessons as Drafts](#keep-unfinished-lessons-as-drafts)

## Open the Course Structure

1. In the sidebar, select **Content**.
2. Select the course you want to work on.
3. The **Course structure** panel lists every section and lesson in the order members will meet them.

A new course opens on "No lessons yet" — the next two sections fix that.

## Add a Section

Sections break a long course into parts, so a member sees three stages instead of twenty lessons.

1. Open the add menu and select **Add section**.
2. Enter a **Name** — what this part covers, for example "Getting started".
3. Optionally add a **Label** such as "Part 1". The label sits above the name as a short marker.
4. Save.

Skip sections entirely for a short course. Lessons can sit at the top level without one.

## Add a Lesson

1. Open the add menu and select **Add lesson**.
2. Choose the **Type** — **Lesson** for content and widgets, or **Sequence** for guided steps. See [Create an Interactive Sequence Lesson](/help/build-your-apps-content/create-an-interactive-lesson.md).
3. Enter a **Name** (up to 80 characters) and a **Summary** (up to 200).
4. Set a **Duration** in minutes so members know what they're committing to.
5. Turn on **Available for free** to open this lesson to people who haven't bought yet.
6. Under **Section**, choose which section it belongs to, or select **No section (top level)**.
7. Save, then select **Open lesson editor** to build the content — see [Build a Lesson With Blocks](/help/build-your-apps-content/build-a-lesson.md).

## Reorder Sections and Lessons

Order is the path through your course, so it's worth getting right.

1. Drag a section by its reorder handle to move the whole part, lessons included.
2. Drag a lesson by its handle to move it within its section.
3. The new order saves as you drop it — there's nothing else to confirm.

## Keep Unfinished Lessons as Drafts

A lesson you haven't finished shows a **Draft** badge and stays hidden from members.

1. Leave a lesson as a draft while you're still writing it.
2. Publish it when the content is ready.
3. Use drafts to build a whole section ahead of time, then release the lessons in order.
